Hawaian welcome awaits
After weeks on end sailing through fast and glorious trade wind conditions, Adrian and his faithful Barrabas are now in slow conditions only a stone throw away from Hawaii. Any land fall is stressfull, especially when one hasn't seen land for so long! In the next few days Adrian will begin to see the jagged cliffs and peaks of Hawaii and then dodge the usual obstacles (fishing boats, buoys, nets...) as he sails close to land onroute to the planned meeting point to gather his supply drop.
This is a very exciting time for both Adrian and other sailors in Hawaii. Most major sailing events sail far south of Hawaii and these stunning islands are often forgotten in the sailing circuits. For an European solo sailor to show up after over 6 months at sea without seeing another human will no doubt bring some happy and even emotional moments for all who will go out to see Adrian.
Back on land, the Alpha Global Expedition shore team, in UK and Portugal, are extremely grateful for the support and enthusiasm of the Waikiki Yacht Club. They will now provide us with daily weather information and local knowledge in order to assist Adrian on his approach.
